Conservatory of Dance goes to China 2008!

The Conservatory of Dance is thrilled to announce that the Purchase Dance Corps will perform at two International Festivals as representatives of Purchase College and the State University of New York this month.
Participating in this cultural exchange are dancers Brian Lawson, Chihiro Shimizu, McKay Montz, Marissa Horton, Christopher Ralph, James Boyd, Leah Katz and Chalvar Monteiro. These dancers will travel to Nanjing, China to perform excerpts from Kevin Wynn’s Expulsion form Paradise at the Nanjing Arts Institute in Nanjing, China on October 27. Mr. Wynn, CoD professor & choreographer will teach and lead a lecture demonstration with Stacey-Jo Marine, who travels with the group as technical director.
A second PDC performance will be the highlight of the Jiangsu Province’s 30th Anniversary Festival, which takes place in the 5,000 seat Olympic Center in Jiangsu, and will be broadcast live on Jiangsu state television on October 30th.
While in Nanjing, Dean Carol N. Shiffman and Dean Emerita Carol K. Walker will attend the Forum on Internationalization of Higher Education, where Ms. Walker, representing President Schwarz, will deliver a keynote address. The Purchase delegation, along with representatives from other governments and SUNY system, will also visit University officials in Suzhou and Shanghai.
The deans, CoD faculty member Nelly van Bommel, and Purchase alumna, Lesley Garrison, travel to Taiwan to the Taipei National University of the Arts. Choreographer Ms. van-Bommel will teach classes at TNUA and Ms. Garrison will perform Ms. van-Bommel’s new solo at a month-long arts festival there.
